Our Learn How to Smith class is the perfect introduction to the art of blacksmithing. Guided by experienced instructors, you will explore the essential forging techniques needed to shape metal with confidence and precision.
Two-Day Blacksmithing & Freehand Forging Experience
This private two-day course is designed for anyone who wants to start blacksmithing — whether as a hobby or a future career. If you have ever been curious about working at a forge, this is the perfect place to begin.
Over two full days (9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with lunch provided from great local spots like Mexican restaurants, pizza places, and delis), you will learn the essential skills to start forging at home. We will cover: tapering, scrolling, flattening, spreading, upsetting, hot cutting, twisting, hammer control, anvil stance, temperature management, quenching, tempering, normalizing, and understanding internal grain structure.
Day One focuses on building strong fundamentals.
Day Two lets you apply those skills with freehand forging, where you can create almost anything your imagination allows — from Viking spoons and sculptures to swords and blades.
You will have full access to our tools, equipment, and expertise throughout the course. All you need to bring is your creativity, determination, and passion.
