Frank is insanely knowledgeable and personable and I can’t wait to come back for more classes!!Posted on Ilya AbramskyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I received this blacksmithing intro class as a Christmas gift and was really excited going in. It absolutely didn’t disappoint. The instructor was incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about teaching. We made a Viking battle axe bottle opener, which was such a fun and unique project. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up for the knife making class and can’t wait to come back.Posted on Lenny BreindelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve taken two classes at Riff Workshops — Forge Your Own Bottle Opener and Forge a Railroad Spike Knife — and both were excellent experiences. Frank is an outstanding instructor with a deep understanding of blacksmithing, and he’s great at sharing that knowledge with newcomers. His teaching style strikes a perfect balance between clear instruction and patience, which made it easy for someone new like me to grasp the techniques and concepts. The classes were hands-on, well-paced, and a lot of fun, and I walked away with pieces I’m genuinely proud of. I’ll definitely be taking more classes at Riff’s workshop and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in blacksmithing.Posted on mitch cohenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great place.Posted on Tree CalaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had the best experience ever at rift's workshop! Our young homeschoolers got to create a bottle opener out of a simple stick of metal and it was incredible to watch the whole process. Frank, the owner was absolutely fantastic. So respectful, patient and great with our kids. I loved every minute of it and am already looking into hosting a mom's Night out event here! Thank you for such a memorable experience!Posted on Elaine AlvarezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. At Riff’s Workshop, we blend traditional forging techniques with modern tools to craft strong, functional, and lasting pieces.

Every forged creation starts with precision, patience, and heat. We carefully prepare each piece, choosing the right steel and controlling the fire to achieve optimal workability. From the first hammer strike to the final detail, our focus is on strength, durability, and craftsmanship.
The ancient and powerful craft of shaping metal through heat, raw strength and conforming it to your will — where fire meets steel, and raw strength gives form, the only limitation is your imagination.
This age-old tradition has many techniques, methods, and forms to achieve a wide range of results. It is the act of allowing the internal grain of the steel to reform and realign itself after being shaped into what you decided it would become. It's similar to how our finest soldiers are molded into elite warriors—then given a brief break after AIT to reunite with their families and find their center.
A transformative heat treatment where steel is pushed to its limits in an extremely explosive process —heated to an extremely high temperature and rapidly cooled in seconds, often in oil or water. This locks the structure into a hardened state, increasing strength and wear resistance. It's the finest moment where a steel creation or blades soul is born into this world. Though it is true and hardened it is also brittle if you don't do this next process carefully!
Tempering a blade is the art of taking steel that’s been hardened to the edge of brittleness and giving it a soul. Through controlled heat, the blade is carefully brought back from the brink — trading fragility for resilience. It's the moment where fire and precision meet to create a weapon that’s not just sharp, but battle-ready: strong, flexible, and forged for endurance.
